Now I'll tell you that the painting is labelled "Portrait of a Humanist". The sitter looks far more like a condottiere - at least a part-time condottiere. In addition, it used to be attributed at one time to Antonello da Messina. Now I wonder did Rafael ever see it under the old attribution?
